Mission Trip FAQ

WILL MY LIFE BE CHANGED?

I have not met one out of the nearly three thousand team members who God has called to work alongside Paradise Bound leave here without being changed deep within. If you allow it, our Lord will change you beyond what you can even imagine. You do not have to be perfect, or even have a relationship with Christ right now, but if you let Him He will embrace you and lead you home. He longs for lives changed and waits now for you and those lives He will touch through you.

WHAT IS THE TRIP DURATION?

Unless otherwise stated, all experiences are eight days. Two are travel days, three are Kingdom Building (construction), and two are Medical Clinic/Outreach. Your last day in Guatemala helps us prepare for the next team, allows you some time in Antigua shopping, and could change your life forever with our final team devotion that evening!

HOW DO I FORM OR JOIN A MISSION TEAM?

Please see Form a Team, or contact us at info@paradisebound.org for open dates/teams and additional booking information. Email is always your surest way of communication with us, but expect some delayed replies if mission teams are onsite.

IS THE WATER SAFE TO DRINK?

Absolutely not! We provide purified water for all drinking and cooking needs. Please bring an empty water bottle along to fill from our large containers.

WHAT WILL WE EAT?

American style food is prepared by our staff using purified water. Pancakes, spaghetti, casseroles, lasagna, Pizza, and similar are just a few of the meals available. Noon construction site meals are usually more traditional (awesome) Guatemalan dishes.

BESIDES THE TRIP FEES, WHAT EXPENSES WILL I PERSONALLY INCUR?

If you do not have a passport,  you will need to obtain one. Start this process at least two months before your departure date. While in Guatemala there will be only a few optional expenses. Generally a team will eat at a restaurant or order pizza 1 or 2 times, each meal cost $7-$8, but team members can chose to eat all meals at the mission base. You will have time on your free day to visit the local market for souvenirs. Team members have spent anywhere from $0 to $200. Also water and juice is provided at the mission base and work site free of charge. On your two travel days you may also want to purchase something to eat or drink at the airports.

BESIDES THE PER PERSON OR INDIVIDUAL COSTS, WHAT EXPENSES WILL OUR TEAM INCUR?

$1325 per home built (one home per every 4-6 group members). That is, a team of 30 would build 5 homes; a team of 20 would build 4, etcetera. We also ask for help covering the cost of medicine, which is $2,500, and Bibles, $500, used in your Clinic/Outreaches. See Costs for more information. These are team expenses and the fundraising is much easier done as a team. If you are one or a few people joining a team, you will be asked to help raise funds for the homes, meds and Bibles.

DO I NEED TO SPEAK SPANISH?

Absolutely not! Though Spanish will help you communicate, we actually enjoy it if you cannot. If you do not speak Spanish, you cannot hide behind words like we do so often. Smile and they will smile, love and they will love in return. You’ll be amazed at how God will open your heart and theirs through the lack of communication!

DO I NEED BUILDING EXPERIENCE?

It certainly helps, but is absolutely not necessary. We have designed our homes so anyone, young, old, or anywhere in between can help with the construction; just come ready to be used and changed forever.

WILL MY TEAM BE THE ONLY ONE AT PARADISE BOUND WHEN I AM THERE?

We purposely choose to host only one mission team per trip, so we can pour everything we have and are into ministry with you. Mixed teams (individuals from various churches/families) are common, but we all work together, building homes and hosting medical clinics as one unit. We handle no more than 40 persons per team, with 30 being a much better number.

WILL I HAVE TO SPEAK IN FRONT OF CROWDS OR SHARE MY TESTIMONY VERBALLY?

Though that opportunity may present itself, no one is forced to do any of the above. Many church going team members come to Guatemala not having a real or deep personal relationship with Jesus Christ and therefore have difficulty sharing a testimony. For others it may scare them to think of sharing. However, many team members who never thought they could share have done so and their lives and those hearts listening have never been the same.

WILL I HAVE TO SHARE AT DEVOTIONS?

No, yet many who never have can’t contain the joy within by weeks end.

WILL GOD USE ME TO CHANGE LIVES FOR ETERNITY?

Absolutely, our Lord promises that His word would not return unto Him void. Though most teams experience many people coming to know Christ, know that even if we do not see it ourselves, we can stand on the promises of our Lord Jesus Christ. Only eternity will fully reveal the difference everlastingly that your decision to come and work alongside of us will make.
